چکیده

We study a general class of translation invariant quantum Markov evolutions for a particle on Z. We assume locality of the spatial jumps and exponentially fast relaxation in momentum space. It is shown that the particle position diffuses in the long time limit. We employ a fiber decomposition in momentum space of the evolution made possible by the translation invariance of the dynamics. A central limit theorem follows from perturbation theory around a single fiber whose evolution in the momentum representation is described by a Markov jump process on the d-dimensional torus.

Quantum evolution according to real clocks

We characterize good clocks, which are naturally subject to fluctuations, in statistical terms. We also obtain the master equation that governs the evolution of quantum systems according to these clocks and find its general solution. This master equation is diffusive and produces loss of coherence. Moreover, real clocks can be described in terms of effective interactions that are nonlocal in ti...

Relaxation dynamics of a quantum Brownian particle in an ideal gas

We show how the quantum analog of the Fokker-Planck equation for describing Brownian motion can be obtained as the diffusive limit of the quantum linear Boltzmann equation. The latter describes the quantum dynamics of a tracer particle in a dilute, ideal gas by means of a translation-covariant master equation. We discuss the type of approximations required to obtain the generalized form of the ...

Decoherence and purity of a driven solid-state qubit in Ohmic bath

In this paper we study the decoherence and purity of a driven solidstate qubit in the Ohmic bath by using the method based on the master equation. At first, instead of solving the master equation we investigate the coefficients of the equation which describe the shift in frequency, diffusive, decoherence, and so on. It is shown that one of the coefficients (we called it decoherence coefficient)...

Microscopic theory of anomalous diffusion based on particle interactions.

We present a master equation formulation based on a Markovian random walk model that exhibits subdiffusion, classical diffusion, and superdiffusion as a function of a single parameter. The nonclassical diffusive behavior is generated by allowing for interactions between a population of walkers. At the macroscopic level, this gives rise to a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation. The diffusive behavi...

Transition from diffusive to ballistic dynamics for a class of finite quantum models.

The transport of excitation probabilities amongst weakly coupled subunits is investigated for a class of finite quantum systems. It is demonstrated that the dynamical behavior of the transported quantity depends on the considered length scale; e.g., the introduced distinction between diffusive and ballistic transport appears to be a scale-dependent concept, especially since a transition from di...
